The City of Pawnee City is dedicated to helping protect the health, safety and welfare of both people and animals in our community.
The Pawnee City, Nebraska Animal Services' department provides the following assistance to all residents and is dedicated to helping protect the health, safety and welfare of both people and animals in our community.
- Responding to stray animal complaints
- Investigating dangerous animals
- Impoundments
- Adoptions
- Barking dog complaints
- Trapping nuisance wildlife and loose livestock
- Carcass removal
- Ordinance enforcement
Animal Control Board
This board was formed to handle the many animal issues that happen within the City. The board meets quarterly to discuss issues and make recommendations to the City Council.
Members: Mayor Charlie Hatfield, Deputy Clerk Wiers, Sheriff Braden Lang, Nancy Tilton, Keith Growling, Laura Poskochil & former Sheriff Jayme Reed.
Dog Licensing
Dogs within City Limits must be licensed annually. Licenses are due in January or within 30 days of aqcuiring a new dog and expire December 31.
Proof of current Rabies vaccination is due at time of Licensure.

Lost & Found Pets
The City works closely with the Pawnee County Sheriff's department to retrieve stray or lost pets and return them to their families in a timely manner.
Please report any stray dog sightings to the Sheriff's office at 402-852-2969. Captured dogs will be held at the City's Kennels and posted on the Pawnee City Classifieds Facebook Group and the Safe Haven Animal Rescue Facebook Page.
If your dog has run away and has been picked up, contact the City Office at 402-852-2781 between 8am-5pm to make arrangements and pick up your dog.
